About 11 years ago I took a job that never I never would have imagined
in my wildest dreams while in seminary…I became a car salesman, complete w/ a
salesman license. I was officially one of those guys I trusted the least. I"ll never forget my 1st day. My boss gave me the keys to one of the cars, his cell
phone & credit card sending me on errands that took half the morning. After
all was said & done I didn’t think the job would be half bad. For the most
part it wasn’t, I didn’t have to work on commission & I got an education on the fees added to the end of the sale.
Working where I did, I was grateful we only added only the necessary fees, tax, title
& tags. A lot of dealerships will add what they call doc fees. From they try to sale you many other things.
Extended Warranties on the outside. Extended Warranties on the inside. Tires
for life, which looks good but there are lots of stipulations…they are the 1’s 2
rotate & balance etc. Another add on, if you are financing the vehicle is GAP
insurance…Guaranteed Auto Protection or Guaranteed Asset Protection… A type of auto insurance that car owners can buy to protect themselves
against losses that can arise when the amount of compensation received from a total loss does not fully cover the
amount the insured owes on the vehicle's financing or lease agreement. This
situation arises when the balance owed on a car loan is greater than the book
value of the vehicle…if book value is $10,000 but I owe $15,000 then gap
insurance kicks in to cover where I fall short.
Car loan or no car loan we all
fall short…Isaiah 59:2: Your
sins have made a separation from u and your God & your sins have hidden His
face from u so that He does not hear. Romans 3:23…all have sinned & fall
short of the glory of God…Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death
Colossians 1:21 Once you were alienated from God and were
enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior…we need someone 2
cover the gap…Isaiah 53:5-6: He
was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him
was the chastisement that brought us peace, & w/ His wounds we are healed…53:12d: He bore the sin of many &
makes intercession for the transgressors…Romans
3:23-24: For all have sinned & fall short of the glory of God, & are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ
Jesus…Colossians 1:22: He has now
reconciled in His body of flesh by His death in order to present you holy & blameless & above reproach before Him…Hebrew 4:14-16: Since then we have a
great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God,
let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize w/ our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as
we are, yet w/o sin. Let us then w/ confidence draw near 2 the throne of grace,
that we may receive mercy & find grace 2 help n time of need.
The 1st gap Jesus filled is spiritual but don’t be fooled He also fills the physical & sociological gap.
‘God’s eye is on the barren, the marginalized, the stigmatized, the
tyrannized. He does not forget us.' He does not forget us...Part of sanctification (being made holy) is having our mind redefined. We read Romans 8:28 & wonder "If it is so good why do I feel so bad." Part of the answer is found in the reminder of Paul's thought: For those whom He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son...Anything that fulfills that purpose is 'good' to the mind being sanctified. While our circumstances may not feel good God is working for us now & that is the reason we can give thanks in all circumstances. Approach the throne of
grace w/ confidence…when we draw close to God He draws close to us.
