Obedience 1st

I often have this question poised to me, "How can we bring more people into our church?" This question has a number of answers, some better than others. My idea is to get away from this as our motivation. Our motivation should be obedience first. I believe God gives each church a vision. What has happened is we have taken this and created worship banners that say all the right things. Without obedience they are simply meaningless words....James 1:22-25: "Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceives yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it - he will be blessed in what he does."

The key is not to just look the part we need to do the part. My first step in this direction was asking our deacons to think of 1 thing we can do this year we have never done...I have also laid out a couple goals...short term we are going to be helping build a house through habitat. Hopefully expanding our local ministry. I also laid out a goal of going on a missions trip within the next 2 years. Hopefully expanding our global ministry. Based on scripture God honors obedience by placing us where we need to be to speak, with authority, the kingdom message. When we speak the kingdom message it has greater impact because of our demonstration of the words we are now speaking.

Maybe this is intentional obedience...we obey with the intention of engaging the world through our life and through our speech.. These 2 go hand in hand. How can we bring more people into our church, obedience 1st.
